ABOUT THE ARTIST
Justin Hervey was born in 1967 in Zimbabwe. In the early seventies he, with his family travelled extensively within Southern Africa, living in Zimbabwe, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and finally settling in the Eastern Cape. He was schooled at St. Andrews College in Grahamstown and studied architecture in Port Elizabeth thereafter. He has been running his own practise in Cape Town since 1996.
His works cover landscapes, still life and figurative subjects and are accessible to many art lovers. Painting and drawing has always been a part of his life but it was only fairly recently that he started doing portraits and nudes. Throughout, his favourite medium has been oil, each piece of work varying from a spontaneous a la prima to work that evolves over five to fifteen hours.
Justin’s influences include John Singer-Sargent, Joaquim Sorolla and William Russell-Flint.
